The Student Council Team at SBC are known as “Agents of Change” and are responsible for leading whole school cultural initiatives and campaigns to ensure all pupils and staff are fully committed to our 5 Core Principles of positive behaviour.
Each area leader has a team of 4 coordinators from across the Key Stages to help support and guide others in a positive direction by role modelling expectations and offer support and guidance when necessary.
Most of our pupils have complex behavioural, social, emotional and mental health difficulties and additional learning difficulties, such as ADHD, ODD, adolescent psychiatric problems, attachment disorder issues along with challenging behaviours.
We also welcome and support pupils with Autistic Spectrum Condition and other Speech, Language and Communication difficulties.
We firmly believe in listening to those we work with including the pupils.
Many contribute to various aspects of school life through the Student Council and, in their final year, as Prefects and Mentors.
The Student Council meets weekly and generate minutes for the SLT to discuss in their meetings for action and review.
We believe that students can work and achieve well beyond expected levels based on prior attainment. For our pupils and their staff SBC is not just a school, but a real community of enthusiastic learners who find excitement throughout their time with us.We help and encourage our pupils to be knowledgeable, thoughtful and confident with all the skills needed to make their way in the world when they leave us.All pupils have a statement of Special Educational needs or a draft or completed Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP).To arrive at this stage they will have seen a variety of professionals who have investigated the root of the child’s difficulties in learning.
We also believe that ability is not fixed but can be developed with the right attitudes to learning and approaches to work.
